Art inspires, connects and uplifts us and, researchers say, it also plays a key role in building stronger communities.

The 2023 Arts and Economic Prosperity Study found that 86% of Americans who attend art events feel that art plays a big role in their quality of life, and 89% saw such gatherings as a source of community pride. And there’s evidence to back that up: According to the National Endowment for the Arts, adults who attend events on a regular basis are more likely to be socially active in their community and tend to have better relationships with friends and family.

That’s one of the perks of living in a city like Winter Park, where creativity plays a starring role, and appreciators of the arts have an abundance of top-quality museums and theaters to choose from nearby. Here at The Mayflower at Winter Park, we’ve been honored to have mutually beneficial partnerships with many of the area’s best-loved art organizations.

What does that look like? For starters:

  • Supporting Local Culture. Ranked the #8 best art fair nationwide and #1 in the South, the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival is a must-see event and it’s also located just a few minutes from the Mayflower campus, where many of our residents make it an annual tradition to attend and indulge in our city’s art, food, and culture.
  • Showcasing Top Performing Artists. Over the years, we’ve welcomed singers and musicians from the Bach Festival Society and Opera Orlando to perform live on campus—a rare opportunity to savor world-class music from the comfort of home, and to get a “sneak preview” of the season’s stand-out shows.
  • Breathing New Life Into Art History. Art appreciation starts with education, and for Mayflower residents, there’s no better place to start than our informative guest lectures. Featuring experts from local museums and performing arts organizations, we’ve offered talks on painting, dance, music, costuming, and more.
  • Going Hands-On and Behind the Scenes! From watercolor painting to ballroom dancing, you’ll find myriad creative classes and activities at The Mayflower. In a recent partnership with the Orlando Ballet, the Ballet hosted residents for expert-led dance classes, behind-the-scenes tours, and rehearsal viewings downtown.
