Nutrition Tips from Leigh Ann
We all get food cravings.
- If you're craving salty foods, your're craving more taste. Try eating low-salt pretzels with mustard, low-fat chips with salsa, or popcorn with garlic and rosemary.
- If you're craving food with fat, you're feeling stressed or sad. Try snacking on low-fat chocolate milk, low-fat ice cream or yogurt, or toast with peanut butter.
- If you're craving sugar, it's because your blood sugar levels are low. Eat little meals throughout the day, and don't skip meals to keep levels steady. Some smart snacks are fruit and yogurt smoothies, dried apricots, dates or plums.
- To outsmart your food cravings don't outlaw foods or you'll want them more. Know what triggers your cravings and be prepared with healthy alternatives. Eat regularly as skipping meals or waiting too long between eating can trigger cravings. Create a diversion. Don't let boredom spoil a healthy diet. Drink water before you have a snack. You may really be thirsty not hungry. Stay prepared. Always measure out portions when you do indulge instead of eating from the bag or box.
